American Estates: J. Alan Smooth Tomato with Buddha Belly Bamboo (722) (2012)

Product Number: 004-009-10739

I don't think I've seen Jeff Gracik make use of Buddha Belly bamboo before, but of course with this Tomato, he implemented it beautifully. This Tomato is not all organic accent of course, as the undulating honey-blonde stuff operates harmoniously with the squat, subtly streamlined bowl, both in form and palette, and calls to mind those more "cuddle-able" pieces of the old Danish school. The slight concave curve of the rim reinforces this comforting appeal, and said rim also happens to be packed with birdseye. Bolstered by a circle of flame on all flanks. Jeff opted for a warm, smoldering walnut contrast for the briar to accentuate this lovely grain pattern, and a simple, elegant treatment for the bamboo, and fitted the design with a handsome, gently downturned saddle stem. There are a few chatter marks within the chamber from reaming, but otherwise condition is excellent.
