American Estates: David Huber Smooth Bent Dublin with Boxwood (2013)
Product Number: 004-009-13022
Sinuous and organic, this bent Dublin reflects David Huber's attraction to experimenting with proportion. It's a relatively small pipe with a low-slung transition and deep sweeping curves. It's also an attractive pipe, with contrast stain highlighting wonderfully oriented grain throughout. The shank expands from heel to shank end, where it is topped off by a mouthpiece that follows the expansion of the briar. The shank is higher than it is wide, with a vertically oval cross section, and the diminutive saddle bit almost disappears in silhouette, throwing all of the visual weight forward to the stummel and completing an aesthetic of forward movement. Very easy to rest in the hand, and chock full of mesmerizing grain, this pipe is a welcome addition to the Huber canon.- Chuck Stanion
