American Estates: Yeti Smooth Bent Pot with Bamboo (336) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-12464
Micah "Yeti" Cryder has an acute skill when it comes to fashioning pieces that, while replete with organic charm, show no shortage of sculptural, precise shaping. It's a fine line the carver's work treads, as evidenced by this remarkably active bent Pot. The bowl is incredibly squat and broad, widening a bit at its low-set waistline, and features a crisp ridgeline around the transition that calls to mind Lars Ivarsson's signature Cup and Ball design. The rim has an undulating orientation, giving the typically straightforward shape a touch of whimsy. Out back, two knuckles of pale bamboo extend the shank and gradually rise toward the softly downturned saddle stem, with its base expertly continuing the rhythm and spacing established by the bamboo. A striking contrast stain adorns the stummel and highlights a wealth of flame grain around the bowl while a subtle ridgeline outlines the base, framing a sea of swirling birdseye. And to top it all off, this stunning piece is still unsmoked.- Jeffery Sitts
