American Estates: David Huber Smooth Volcano with Boxwood (11) (2018) (Unsmoked)

Product Number: 004-009-12534

Up until now, we've never seen David Huber's take on the Volcano, but the North Carolina-based artisan has certainly made quite the impression with this rendition. Huber likes to push boundaries in his work and this Volcano certainly does that with its precise line work and gorgeous aesthetics. Two ridgelines emanate from the sides of the high-set rim and curve around the bowl's flanks, eventually merging together to wrap around the bowl's lower fore. They create a forward jutting heel that perfectly mimics the rim's forward canted posture, giving the piece its striking silhouette and showcases David's precise, keen eye for subtle details. Following the almost non-existent transition, the short, round shank kicks upward before terminating at the softly downturned mouthpiece, with its domed base seamlessly continuing the shape of the shank. Huber has dressed the stummel in a gorgeous, deep ruby stain, showcasing plenty of lively flame grain as if it seemingly erupted out of the bowl and is flowing down the flanks. A pale boxwood accent adds some tastefully reserved contrast to the composition. And if all that weren't enough, it's presented here in unsmoked condition.
