American Estates: Michael Frey Smooth Bent Brandy (1987) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-009-12395
A student of Michael Butera, Michael Frey valued quality over quantity — only having released a select number of pipes before he retired; thus, we don't see his pieces in our estates department very often. On the rare occasion one does come through our doors, Frey's appreciation of quality is readily evident. Such is the case with this lithe bent Brandy, featuring forward cant to its palm-filing bowl (it's a large pipe) and a generously sized chamber within. After an effortless transition, a straight shank rises to the mouthpiece, giving this piece the ability to hang from the jaw with ease. the grain is very good, following the lines of the bowl. Considering Frey is said to have retired from pipemaking, there's no telling when one of his pipes may pop up again, making this a prime opportunity to pick up one of his pieces in unsmoked condition.- Jeffery Sitts
