American Estates: Chheda Sandblasted Billiard (216) (1) (2014)
Product Number: 004-009-15723
Premal Chheda makes pipes in Columbus, Ohio, and has had a hand in training many other carvers at the beginning stages of their own careers with artisans like Bill Shalosky and Jesse Jones spending time crafting pieces in Chheda's workshop. This particular piece from 2014 exemplifies Premal's robust approach to classic shapes, a straight Billiard that exudes a sense of proportional muscularity, while remaining thoroughly traditional in its execution. The walnut-stained sandblast offers plenty of crisp texture that's fascinating in hand while the vulcanite stem tapers gradually toward the lip button. With a subtly chamfered rim, the only departure from the texture of the stummel is a thin band of smooth briar at the shank end as well as the strip that comprises the nomenclature panel along the underside. Easy in the hand, with an impressive depth of chamber, this piece deserves serious consideration.- Jeffery Sitts
