American Estates: Eric Klodt Sandblasted Apple with Bamboo (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-009-12667
Before becoming a pipemaker, Eric Klodt, like many other carvers, began as a pipesmoker and enthusiast. He gradually grew to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into pipemaking and decided to try his hand at crafting pipes. He notably studied under artisans such as Rad Davis, Nate King, and Michael Lindner, and even had one of his pipes selected as part of the winning seven day set of the 2017 North American Pipe Carvers Contest. Here, Klodt has crafted plump, lengthy Apple, utilizing two thick knuckles of bamboo to extend the shank. The medium's pale color stands out in stark contrast against the jet-black tones of the stummel and saddle stem which has been reinforced with a steel tenon. The bowl has then been treated to a light-depth, yet crisp sandblast, maintaining the bowl's supple curves with the rim left smooth and stained a walnut hue. It's offered here in unsmoked condition.- Jeffery Sitts
