American Estates: Yeti Sandblasted Tomato with Bakelite Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-009-14596

What's interesting and beautiful about this design from Micah Cryder is how expertly he's managed to emphasize the playful curves and sheer breadth of the Tomato shape while really accentuating the piece's strong sweeping gesture from end to end. Keeping the design extremely low in profile appears to have been key, allowing the eye to easily follow that parabolic arc running from the high-oriented waistline of the bowl, along the curling underside, to the upward-reaching shank end. You can appreciate the overall smoothness and fluidity of its silhouette even further once you set it down. Balanced on the flat below the transition, it sits quite stably, with neither heel nor shank nor stem touching the surface of the desk or table.

Given its more minimalist shaping style, Micah appropriately went with a jet-black sandblast for the briar, keeping the focus on the shape itself while still bringing out loads of texture and grain. It's topped with a cobalt blue accent, crafted from an antique Bakelite poker chip — continuing the growing trend of bringing old-school, non-pipe related Americana into the realm of artisanal pipe making. Recommended.
