American Estates: Michael Butera Sable Vintage Classic Lovat with Silver (301) (A) (1988)

Product Number: 004-009-12971

Michael Butera is perhaps the most influential carver of the late 20th-century American/Italian style, and his pipes are few and rarely present themselves. Here's one from 1988, with thick chamber walls and a firm, muscular bowl, quite tall in comparison to the shank-and-stem combination out back. The transition steps to the round shank in crisp, cylindrical fashion, and the sandblast offers no shortage of deep valleys and grooved ring grain. A stunning find made by an American pipe making legend and one that's a particularly excellent example of Butera's style with traditional shapes.
