American Estates: Bill Shalosky Sandblasted Bent Dublin (074) (2010)
Product Number: 004-009-15410
The balance point for this Bill Shalosky bent Dublin is under the transition and about a half inch up the shank, which is unusual, as the bowl typically possesses the majority of the mass. However, this piece has a wonderful, paneled shank that throws a bit more weight, both literal and visual, to the stem side. Subtle panels run down the sides of the shank. The offset expansion at the base of the mouthpiece offers a pleasing step to the saddle bit. The bowl stands upright and confident, with a flat, slightly inward-angled and wide rim. The sandblast is deep, craggy, delightful to the touch, and with a warm color palette contrasting against the jet black stem. Grain? Just take a look. This is grain that could make a human rethink their priorities. Concentric, stacked, consistent, tactile, it's grain to be held as an example of doing things right.- Chuck Stanion
