American Estates: Micah Redmond Smooth Tomato with Bamboo
Product Number: 004-009-15411
Micah Redmond's signature Tomato rendition is defined by a squat bowl, stout transition, and forward-urging sense of momentum. Redmond's Tomato designs never cease to impress, displaying the American artisan's deft carving hand and artistic creativity in how he's able to make each iteration subtly unique in its own way.
This specific piece displays a shank that rivals the bowl in regard to visual weight. It's not a particularly chubby number, yet the bowl is so squat and pointed toward the fore that the shank stands in stark contrast against it. With an almost nonexistent transition rising almost to the rim, it flares gently into the bowl's protruding waistline. Micah's dressed it, then, in a handsome contrast stain, revealing crisp lines of vertical grain around the bowl and pinpricks of birdseye underneath. The sturdy bamboo shank offering a bright contrast is a relative rarity for Redmond but seems a natural element for this composition.- Truett Smith
