American Estates: J. Alan Sandblasted Petite Tomato (1524) (2019)

Product Number: 004-009-17968

A Danish-style Tomato from Jeff Gracik of J. Alan pipes, this piece, while quite squat and rounded, is lent the impression of added height thanks to a considerably low-set transition and oval shank. Said shank curls effortlessly from out of the bowl, balanced out by the stem's recurve, and initiates the form's inherent momentum. A dynamic profile, the piece urges forward, the bowl canted at the aft line, while the rim remains parallel in relation to the horizontal plane. An artisan who looks often to the Danish tradition of pipemaking for inspiration, Jeff has dressed this number in a low profile sandblast, dark-staining it for an understated, traditional appeal and accenting it all with a smooth polished, domed rim of a deep, Bruyere-like tone of ruby red.
