American Estates: Jared Coles Smooth Horn with Orangewood (1710) (2017)

Product Number: 004-009-12928

A more upright and forward-rushing take on the Danish Horn design, this piece from Jared Coles seems to horizontally compress the design's typically sweeping, curling arc along the underside, lending it a subtle angular look around the transition — where the slow taper of the lifting heel meets the firmer, stronger lines of the shank. Together with the cresting wave-like, backwards cusp of the bowl's aft, it creates a sort of visual step from bowl to transition to shank to saddle stem, which in turn further emphasizes the shape's implied forward gesture. And that's just from the profile view. From the smoker's perspective, you'll notice that Jared threw in some strong organic and asymmetrical cues as well, orienting the bowl diagonal to the main axis, making for quite a playful aesthetic overall.
