American Estates: J.T. Cooke Sandblasted Canadian (2008) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-009-13142

While this Canadian from J.T. Cooke is over six inches long, the bowl maintains more circumspect dimensions, providing an impression of a very long pipe proportionally. The sandblast is a terrific example of why Jim's reputation as perhaps the world's finest sandblaster of pipes has become so well known; it's deep, craggy, and feels rugged in hand, and it details the natural grain with profound definition. The smooth band of briar at the end of the shank represents its original, pre-blasted dimensions, indicating the aggressive nature of the technique. The mouthpiece is of Jim's signature poured acrylic, comfortable, a bit softer than most acrylics, and shaped to perfection. Cooke's curing method should be noted as well, though not visible. That method takes up to two weeks and reduces the weight of the briar from 4-9 percent, depending on the individual block, and his method cures primarily the smoke channel and tobacco chamber, providing flavorful briar that absorbs moisture, so it's important to keep a J.T. Cooke pipe clean for that carefully developed system to do its job of providing a dry and effortless smoke.
