American Estates: Scott Klein Sandblasted Tomato (2016)

Product Number: 004-009-18051

This Tomato from Scott Klein promises comfort in the jaw with its balance and poise. There's a lot going on here, beginning with a remarkable sandblast of medium depth, and a crisp ridgeline running along the left lower side of the shank from the shank end to the bowl, much as is seen in Jess Chonowitsch's Fish shape. Contrasting the dark finish is a lenticular accent at the shank face, from which the push-style mouthpiece elegantly projects in minimalist, flat saddle configuration. The cheeking of the bowl is particularly prominent, maintaining that squashed Tomato look even at the transition. It's a low and light, comfortable and complex rendition from one of North America's top carvers.
