American Estates: Yeti Sandblasted Cobra with Bakelite (385) (2018)
Product Number: 004-009-14842
Defined by the Shield-like aspect of the far side of the bowl, the Cobra shape is attributed to Bo Nordh, while artisan carvers have modified its basic tenets with a multitude of vivid interpretations, such as this wonderful example by Micah Cryder of Yeti pipes. The smooth rim best reflects the shaping cues of the bowl, accentuating the shallow curve of the forward bowl in juxtaposition to the more opulent contour of the near side. The transition is sharp, especially on its upward side, permitting the bowl to maintain its shaping and introducing a muscular shank that extends upward to the blue bakelite accent ring visually separating the softly downturned saddle stem from the stummel. Crisp ridgelines define the separate curves of the near and far sides, swooping down the bowl to disappear at the heel. This sandblasted, tall-bowled composition is distinctive and sure to elevate any collection of Danish-inspired, modern shapes.- Chuck Stanion
