American Estates: Alex Florov Smooth Dublin (2016)
Product Number: 004-009-14853
While Alex Florov's portfolio is replete with asymmetrical compositions, here he presents a very symmetrical Dublin. It's profoundly forward inclined, but with a gradual curvature above the transition for an easy slope between the two elements. The shank expands as it leaves the bowl and those lines are firmly terminated by the base of the saddle mouthpiece, which is straight and thin, while the shape of the bowl is supported by the orientation of the grain cascading down the flanks in beautifully defined vertical strands.
A smooth texture dominates the form, but is contrasted by subtle, partially smoothed plateau a the rim. Sweeping flanks ascend from a flattened heel, although this piece is not a sitter. Domed up top and imbued with striking forward momentum, this is a Dublin with its own very distinct character.- Chuck Stanion
