American Estates: Adam Davidson Smooth Acorn with Boxwood (2013)
Product Number: 004-009-18083
The grain is nothing short of stunning on this tall Acorn from world-class carver Adam Davidson. The Acorn is a dynamically naturalistic shape, and Adam has here complemented that aspect with elements contributing to the theme. The rim is of undulating plateau, and the grain descending from it is of fine strands of tight vertical delineation converging perfectly at the crisp heel spur that contributes to the Acorn designation. The shank expands gently as it reaches toward the flat, saddle stem, and considerable delicacy of design and execution is apparent at that juncture. The end of the shank is ragged, while the base of the stem contrasts against it in pale boxwood that inserts into it, leaving the undulating shank-end to sheath that base in a particularly impressive fashion. It's a well-balanced and comfortable piece, commended by the remarkable execution skills of the carver.- Chuck Stanion
