American Estates: J.T. Cooke Sandblasted Calumet (2001)
Product Number: 004-009-15599
While I have come across a J.T. Cooke Calumet before, the shape is considerably rare within the context of the American carver's typically classic shaping style. The Calumet, while not considered a "classic" pipe shape, is certainly not a new one. Its origins are found in Native American culture, with traditional versions often fashioned from stone. This rendition from Cooke, though, was carved from briar and bears the artisan's iconic sandblast, revealing some of the best grain you're likely to find on a pipe — unless the other one in question also happens to have been sandblasted by Cooke. When it comes to textured sandblasts that still maintain strong uniformity and conciseness, J.T. is simply unrivaled, and fans of such finishing style would do well to add this pipe to their collection.-Truett Smith
