American Estates: Will Purdy Sandblasted Billiard (C) (++) (2009)
Product Number: 004-009-15753
Will Purdy comes from a family full of pipe smokers, making his entrance into pipe making in the early 2000s quite a natural one. Taking inspiration from the Anglo-French and Danish schools, Will pays careful attention to a block's grain while shaping, letting it inform him of the most natural design. Purdy uses only Italian briar aged a minimum of five years and fits his stummels with either black or cumberland ebonite purchased from Tom and Pia Eltang. Presented here is a massive Billiard as denoted by the "++" stamps this piece received, making it practically a Magnum interpretation. Measuring over seven inches in total length and housing a chamber depth of nearly two-and-a-half inches, this is a pipe designed for long, relaxing smoking sessions. The sandblasted finish on this piece is stellar, with waves of undulating grain climbing the flanks of the towering bowl before meeting the smooth, flat rim.-Truett Smith
