American Estates: Adam Davidson Smooth Bent Dublin (2014)
Product Number: 004-009-15736
While he does make larger pipes, Adam seems to gravitate towards smaller, more compact pieces. Either way, his finished product is always a study in flawless, precise execution. This bent Dublin, as you might expect, is no exception — exuding a certain sense of subtle grace and sinuous elegance all compressed into a short, Nosewarmer of a shape. Rather Danish-esque in its flowing heel and transition, there's nothing static to be found here. Its smooth beveled rim, gentle taper, and the robust curvature of its oval shank possess a certain synergy with the grain — perfectly accentuated to showcase its tight 360 degrees of flame grain as well as the rather mesmerizing display of whirling birdseye along the underside and rim. While I'm personally a fan of longer shapes, after seeing this beautiful work of art, I have to admit I'm considering something a little more Davidson.
