American Estates: David Huber Rusticated Billiard (2014)
Product Number: 004-009-15851
David Huber doesn't fashion many straight Billiards, let alone ones free of adorning bamboo shank extensions, which makes this 2014 piece a welcome sight. The American carver also doesn't utilize a rusticated finish often as this piece is the first rusticated Huber pipe we've seen. It's particularly stunning on this offering, rendered in such a way that the bowl's surface resembles the craters seen on the Moon. It's fascinating to study in hand, with the smooth rim offering a touch of contrast. The stummel's deep, dark red stain is wonderfully complemented by the red and black tones of the tapered, cumberland stem. It's a striking piece from Huber and is perfect for those who prefer creative artisan renditions of shape chart standards.- Jeffery Sitts
