American Estates: Clarence Mickles Partially Rusticated Bent Dublin (1996)
Product Number: 004-009-15860
Among the first pipe makers I interviewed when I worked for Pipes and Tobaccos magazine, Clarence Mickles was a quiet man (interviewing him for information was like extracting roots from beneath a healthy tree stump) with a special flare for stylized rustications. This piece from 1996, though, is smooth, accented by flashy chrome, and in stylized bent Dublin form, the bowl tall and flaring above a rather firm heel. Clarence was a gem, and anyone with an interest in North American pipe carving would do well to count one of his pipes among their collection.- Chuck Stanion
