American Estates: J. Alan Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Silver (1019) (2015)
Product Number: 004-009-15896
Jeff Gracik, the artisan behind J. Alan pipes, has a remarkable ability to elevate traditional forms, crafting spectacular interpretations of classic shapes. This bent Brandy is a wonderful example and is a striking rendition from the San Diego-based carver. As someone who loves sandblasted pipes, the finish on this composition immediately grabbed my attention and is one of the wildest, craggiest blasts I've seen on a J. Alan piece. Well-defined waves of ring grain radiate from the bowl's lifted heel and climb the tapered flanks toward the rim. The stummel's dark stain is brilliantly contrasted by the silver mount that then leads into the gently downturned cumberland saddle stem, its red and black hues complementing the bowl's coloration. It's a gorgeous piece from Gracik and will certainly elevate anyone's collection.- Jeffery Sitts
