American Estates: Brad Pohlmann Partially Sandblasted Bent Bulldog (2014)
Product Number: 004-009-15966
Similar to Brad Pohlmann's John Bull design, this bent Bulldog rendition displays a sinuous profile that lends a soft aesthetic to the otherwise quite stolid shape-chart standard. That said, this piece isn't quite Brad's John Bull shape; rather, the heel is a touch firmer, curling less gradually into the bowl's fore, and the transition here is quite tight-knit. The curl of shank and stem, though, are recognizable as Pohlmann's works, with the shank's diamond cross section accentuated by the saddle stem's diminution. Dressed in a dual finish, the lower bowl and shank wear a low-profile sandblast while the smooth briar above the bowl's ridgeline highlights birdseye in a warm stain.-Truett Smith
