American Estates: J. Alan Smooth Bent Dublin with Bamboo (1345) (2017) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-16355
Jeff Gracik of J. Alan Pipes excels at this pipe design style, characterized by a dynamic sense of visual momentum — as if the pipe is streaking forward — and the American artisan's bamboo work is among the best in the world. The two knuckles of bamboo extending this Dublin's shank contribute to the rhythmic momentum of the profile, starting at the forward-angled cant of the saddle stem's base, perfectly spaced to match the bamboo knuckles. The bowl, then, flares more dramatically at its fore, elongating the profile and — again — reinforcing this sleek, aerodynamic motif. The flanks are compressed for an oval cross section that elevates the pipe's ergonomics, and the grain orientation is the cherry on top: Immaculate flame grain covers the entire bowl, descending from a wavy ridgeline that demarcates the rim which is of domed aspect and interspersed with natural plateau for subtle texture that matches that of the bamboo.
