American Estates: Alex Florov Smooth Tomato with Bamboo (2019)

Product Number: 004-009-16392

After a flourishing career in antiquities, Russian-born artisan Alex Florov moved to Chicago and worked as a model maker for several products. A dare by his father-in-law to make a pipe in 2004 then kicked off his current career and his pipes are among the most sought-after in the pipe community.

This organic Tomato design features the affably round, low-slung bowl inherent to the iconic form, with the addition of a fetching design carved into the plump base. A very brief shank is then extended by five knuckles of pale bamboo, showing the carver's fondness for alternative materials. It's topped by a hand-carved vulcanite stem with a stylish domed base, while the stummel showcases striking mixed grain beneath a warm, chestnut stain.
