American Estates: Ligne Bretagne Sandblasted Billiard with Horn Stem (3) (SPC) (2013)
Product Number: 004-009-17004
Ligne Bretagne pipes are the brainchild of Trevor Talbert, featuring vintage stummels found by he and his wife after purchasing a workshop in the region of Brittany in France. Each pipe is fully hand finished and uses new production stems made by Talbert, with this Horn-stemmed Billiard being a wonderful example of the man's talent. Crafted for the Seattle Pipe Club originally, this timeless piece is quite compact and encroaches into Nosewarmer territory at just over four and a half inches long. Its pert and proud bowl sits atop a heel that sweeps languidly upward into the walls, informing a slight taper at the fore end that gives the fingers a lovely place to grasp. Handy, handsome, and pocketable, this piece features a crisp, earthy sandblast that reveals a lovely cross grain structure beneath, with growth rings quavering vertically on the fore and aft of the bowl and blasted birdseye on the flanks, contrasting the horn stem wonderfully.-John McElheny
