American Estates: Adam Davidson Smooth Bent Dublin with Bamboo (2008) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-17558
Adam Davidson is known for carving eye-catching, organic designs, with this fluid, bent Dublin being a fine example. The tall, asymmetrical bowl displays a sharply sloping rim, the front of which curves upward toward the chamber, while the lower bowl tapers to an angular, spur-like heel. The slender, abbreviated and arcing shank is then seamlessly extended by three knuckles of bamboo, the artisan's spacing and precise shaping an impressive feat, all the more so as he bends it in a gestural manner. It's topped by one of Adam's hand-cut, gently downturned, vulcanite stems, the base of which is accentuated by an expansion ring, continuing the rhythm established by the bamboo. A sweeping, high-reaching pipe certain to smoke comfortably, its stummel wears an auburn-hued contrast stain, highlighting stunning cross grain and birdseye. This is yet another striking piece by the talented carver, offering numerous appealing details.
