Jeff Gracik's Fugu is an elegant rendition of the shape, which has much of its basis in the Blowfish's style of using panels and shaping to show off the best of the briar's grain. Jeff has done that with aplomb in this piece, drawing the eye from the curl of its shank, through the long panel of the underside, even as it traverses the bowl to highlight a delight of cross-grain along the fore and aft. At the flanks, two crisp panels are steeped in tight whorls of birdseye, perfectly oriented with the panels and ridges of the form to create a complex and naturalistic composition that melds artistry and function perfectly.
