American Estates: Sam Learned Smooth Hawkbill (Crescent) (02) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-18388
The late Sam Learned was an accomplished pipe maker who studied with Jim Margroum and Ed Burak before making a name for himself through his innovative shaping and intricate accent work. This Hawkbill is a fine example of Learned's shaping style, featuring a plump bowl and tapered, angular rim. The shank displays the Hawkbill shape's characteristic arc shape, fitted with a tapered vulcanite stem. Dressed in a rich mahogany stain, the stummel boasts abundant birdseye around the bowl, with finely oriented cross grain in a band around the bowl and shank.
