American Estates: Pete Prevost Sandblasted Bent Apple (2016) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-009-18583

Pete Prevost carved his first pipe over two days from a pipe kit. He then had the good fortune to learn the craft of pipe making from two of the most accomplished artisans in the United States: Jody Davis and Todd Johnson, both of whom quickly accelerated his learning process in the realms of both shaping and engineering. Prevost's synthesis of this skill with his personal style has resulted in a design outlook that oftentimes highlights compact, robust shaping. This bent Apple, however, showcases the more elegant side of Prevost's work, with an extremely gentle fluidity possessing the entirety of the composition, manifesting as a slight upturn through the shank and an easy curve of the saddle stem. As the shank pushes out from its wide, low-set transition, it takes on a compressed, ovoid look in profile, its travel punctuated by a pair of framing ridges that are extremely crisp and sharp, showcasing Prevost's talent quite well. Up front, we see a pert, plump bowl standing atop a sweeping heel, looking quite reminiscent of the Tomato thanks to its squat, broad build that emphasizes supple curves, making it a comfort to hold. Dressed in a warm auburn sandblast, this piece boasts some handsome grain throughout its stummel and is rich with crisp texture for the fingers to enjoy.
