American Estates: Rolando Negoita Smooth Bent Apple Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-18903
While Rolando Negoita was originally from Transylvania, he migrated to the United States after completing his studies at the Romanian Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. He unfortunately passed in 2021, but he left behind an extensive portfolio of unique and highly creative designs. He was an artisan interested in pushing the boundaries of pipes making, and he drew inspiration from a broad range of influences, including the natural world, the art of ancient Greece, and even Bauhaus architecture.
This bent Apple is a fine example of the late artisan's work, in a playful re-imagining of the classic shape. Featuring an especially plump and hearty thick-walled bowl, this piece offers an authoritative and comfortable presence in hand. A deeply bent shank brings up the rear, rendered in similarly stout proportions and adorned with a carved metallic ring at its junction to an Oom Paul-like vulcanite stem. Dressed in a light chestnut finish, the stummel displays a mix of impeccable birdseye and fine flame grain around the bowl.-Gabriel Bass
