It's native to Vietnam and the Guangdong province in southern China, and the name's reference to Buddha's belly is noticeably apt, with the plump material here fitted to a Billiard bowl in this Nathan Armentrout piece. The bowl is forward-canted and more voluptuous than the usual pipe chart standard, the American artisan clearly having shaped the bowl to match the bamboo's aesthetic.
