American Estates: Mark Tinksy Coral Cherrywood (6) (2023) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-20527
Mark Tinsky has always been an adventurous spirit; in fact, he first decided to open a pipe-carving business while bicycling across Europe with his friend Curt Rollar. Since that fateful day in 1978, the American carver has built a long and successful career of making beautiful pipes, often with his own unique adaptations of classic pipe chart shapes. This Cherrywood is an excellent example of one of these adaptations, with a stylized shank-and-stem combination balancing a dynamic bowl. Said bowl stands atop a flattened, angled heel which cants the walls forward a good bit, these walls growing cylindrically upward to a flat rim. The shank here pushes out from a wide transition, lifted thanks to the heel and flaring very gently outward to meet the stem. Said stem features a trim base that takes on its own, more dramatic, flare toward a firm expansion ring before dipping into a sleek saddle bit. The stummel here is dressed in a warm stain and craggy rustication, courtesy of the Coral finish, and the amber-tinged stem offers a complementary hue.
