American Estates: Moonshine Dark Smooth Pot Still Tobacco Pipe

Though currently produced in Tennessee, Moonshine's roots began in Appalachia, and the brand's name and shaping style align with that region's rugged and practical tradition. The Pot Still design both exemplifies Moonshine's signature aesthetic, while also perfectly complementing the Moonshine name: The design is an ever-stout Pot with a broad bowl and shank to match. With such a robust shank, the rim rises just barely above the transition, and the bowl's broad base and slight taper allude to the shape's evocative title. Compact in length but lacking nothing in substance, the Pot Still is a signature Moonshine design that perfectly embodies the brand's stylistic interpretations of classic shapes.

Every Moonshine stummel is carved on CNC (computer numerical control) machines at the BriarWorks factory in Columbia, Tennessee. Though each individual pipe is based on pre-established templates for consistent shaping across renditions, the stem-fitting and finishing processes are entirely hand-applied by the American workshop's team of artisans: Pete Prevost, Bill Shalosky, and Micah Redmond. All three men are artisan pipe makers in their own rights, and BriarWorks' production model of combining mass-production processes with hand-applied, artisanal techniques results in modestly priced pipes with the engineering and aesthetic quality of handmade work. This particular Moonshine example wears the workshop's Dark smooth finish, highlighting the briar's natural grain in a smoky and alluring stain.
