Cardinal House pipes are made by Walt Cannoy, a respected artisan whose experience in the craft goes back to the 1990s. Each of Cannoy's pipes is completely hand-made and hand-finished, and the Cardinal House line was specifically created to offer all of these features in a series that included artful shaping at a reasonable price. This Bulldog is a handsome, hearty pipe that boasts plenty of substance about its build, with a wide transition giving way to a subtly tapering diamond shank capped with a pale accent that additionally marks the junction to a tapering black vulcanite stem. Up front, the bowl stands on a firm heel, one sharpened by the lower ridge of the shank's paneling, and it flares to a high-set waist marked with twin beadlines. From these lines, the bowl tapers swiftly to the rim, its walls taking on a dynamic forward cant and offering plenty of roo, to showcase the briar's warm, rich stain.
