American Estates: Barclay-Rex Smooth Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-21730
Founded in 1910 by Italian pipe maker Vincent Nastri, Barclay-Rex is a tobacconist based out of Manhattan that derives its name from an amalgamation of Barclay Street, the shop's original location, and the late Nastri's dog, Rex. Still operational and the last family-owned tobacconist in New York, Barclay-Rex offers a number of fine pipes, with this Billiard being one such example. Shape-wise, this piece pairs a tall, forward-canted bowl to a sturdy shank and a slender tapered stem. The bowl lends an active, dynamic posture to the composition, while the shank-and-stem arrangement keeps the shape streamlined and balanced in profile. Dressing this piece is a warm smooth finish that highlights handsome grain throughout the stummel.
