American Estates: Michael Butera Amber Vintage Classic Bulldog (701) (B) (1988) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22241
Crafting pipes since the 1970s, Michael Butera has trained many of today's well-known American artisans, including Larry Roush, Steve Weiner, and Michael Frey. As he produces a limited number of pipes, estate offerings from Butera, like this Bulldog, are a rare treat for pipe collectors. A muscular rendition of the shape-chart standard, this Bulldog pairs a towering bowl to a sturdy shank-and-stem arrangement. Up front, the bowl's walls rise from a firm heel to high-set beadlines which denote an inward taper to the rim. The Bulldog's signature diamond profile is on full display throughout the shank and acrylic saddle stem, adding additional angularity to the silhouette. The mouthpiece is accented with a wooden band around its base, the natural hues pairing well with the dark sandblast dressing the stummel and highlighting impressive growth rings.
