American Estates: The Briar Workshop Smooth Pot Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22319
Coming to us from the collaboration of Jorg Jemelka and Elliott Nachwalter, this bent Dublin is part of the duo's Briar Workshop brand and embodies a look that's very subtly unique among many carvers. The bowl here is the obvious center of the visual weight, with a round heel and thick walls that curve very slightly as they reach toward a domed rim, further amplifying the bowl's curvature. Out back, a wide transition pairs this bowl to a brief shank that's unique for its flare out toward the stem, and this flare is matched by the stem through its base. All of the added thickness at the junction pulls the eye away from the bowl reliably and centers the visual weight more toward the transition, nicely balancing the look of this pipe. Dressed in a warm, rich, chestnut-toned stain, the stummel displays handsome grain, with flame surrounding the walls of the bowl and lining the flanks of the shank.
