American Estates: Tim West Smooth Horn (22) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22333
Based in Columbus, Ohio, Tim West began making pipes in 1967 and made it his business in the 1970s. West is well-regarded for his skill at shaping both Freehands and traditional forms, an entirely self-taught skill. This Horn is a fluid and subtly curved take on the iconic shape, with a consistent flare throughout its construction that gradually leads the eye to the fore and along its lines. The stem is a demurely curved length of shimmering acrylic that pairs to a rather short shank as it reaches out from a wide transition, this combination naturally expanding into the bowl. Said bowl stands on a sweeping heel and urges forward, expanding out to continue the lines of the shape and reaching out toward a broad, flat rim, which overlooks a capacious chamber. Dressed in a warm, auburn-tinged stain, the stummel showcases handsome grain, the flanks being lined a pattern of flame grain while the fore wall is awash with birdseye.
