American Estates: J.M. Boswell Partially Rusticated Bent Billiard Sitter (2023) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-009-22418

J.M. Boswell is one of the United States' most dedicated pipe carvers, having started his career in 1975 as an apprentice before founding his own brand in 1980. Boswell also became an importer of briar, allowing him not only to supply other pipe makers in the U.S. but also to acquire high-quality blocks for his own work. Boswell works alongside his son Dan in the family's tobacco shop in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where the duo carves pipes that run the gamut from subdued, Anglo-French classics to strikingly large works of neoclassicism that draw on the Italian style. Each Boswell pipe is made entirely by hand and features unique shaping that displays the workshop’s signature designs and finishes. Many Boswell pipes are dressed in craggy partial rustications alongside contrast-rich stains, and several of the brand’s signature lines feature striking accent work, including genuine shotgun-shell brass and spiral-carved stummels. Boswell’s work most often boasts robust proportions and generous chambers, with his largest pipes distinguished by the Jumbo and Grizzly designations.
