American Estates: Rolando Negoita Partially Rusticated Bent Egg (2015) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22709
While Rolando Negoita was originally from Transylvania, he migrated to the United States after completing his studies at the Romanian Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. He unfortunately passed in 2021, but he left behind an extensive portfolio of unique and highly creative designs. He was an artisan interested in pushing the boundaries of pipes making, and he drew inspiration from a broad range of influences, including the natural world, the art of ancient Greece, and even Bauhaus architecture. This bent Egg is a fine example of Negoita's style, featuring a visually striking silhouette and pronounced curvature. Reminiscent of a Cavalier, the shank pierces the bowl and extends through the fore of the composition, effectively suspending the bowl and lending the aft a sweeping, gestural elegance. The rich shaping on display is complemented by a striking dual finish, one that sees a rugged rustication juxtaposed against a glossy polish.
