American Estates: Abe Herbaugh Sandblasted Billiard with Silver Spigot Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22873
One of the United States' most accomplished carvers, Abe Herbaugh is known for his Danish-inspired shaping cues and his use of striking accents. With its silver spigot mount and refined figure, this Billiard is an excellent example of the artisan's signature style. The bowl takes on a classic Billiard shape with a handsomely rounded heel and an ever-so-subtle taper toward the rim. Out back, the shank is trim, springing forth from a low-set transition, and is roughly as long as the bowl is wide. The shank terminates in a spigot mount of striking silver, allowing the pipe to be disassembled and cleaned. On the other end of the mount is a sleekly tapered vulcanite stem. Overall, this piece presents an elegant, streamlined profile with some subtle roundness at the bowl that bespeaks Herbaugh's affinity for the Danish carving style. The stummel wears a crisp, smoky-toned sandblast that emphasizes the briar's rippling growth rings, lending the pipe a texture that's stimulating to the eyes and the fingertips.
