American Estates: Micah Redmond Partially Sandblasted Boxwood Tomato Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-009-22946
Micah Redmond has quite a knack for crafting chubby, comfortingly substantial pieces such as this Tomato. They often sport deceptive proportions that don't give much away in terms of scale when simply glancing at an image of the pipe. This pipe, for instance, has a sense of hearty corpulence to it, despite its compact overall dimensions. Rather than opting for traditional briar, Redmond crafted this offering from some particularly gorgeous honey-blonde boxwood. The bowl's rounded flanks showcase the subtle, distinctive waves of grain to great effect, while out back, the shank has been treated to a dark, craggy sandblast, striking a stark contrast with both the front of the stummel and the pipe's vibrant yellow Bakelite stem. This stunning offering was featured in our 2018 American Exposition, and it was the first instance of sandblasted boxwood we'd seen from Micah Redmond, making it a very special piece worth collecting.
