A striking figural from AKB, this piece depicts a skull with a sharp, toothy grin, wearing quite a folksy cap. Rendered in crisp meerschaum, the detail work of the piece is exquisite, the hollow, sunken eyes of the skull especially haunting. The rest of the stummel, underneath the skull and climbing up the shank, is adorned with lively floral carvings, juxtaposing life and death. Out back, an amber and cream stem bends gently, allowing for a relaxed smoking position.
