Rather than being sad or churlish, I'd like to think the plump-lipped woman in this meerschaum carving is looking into the sun or pondering life's mysteries. AKB is quite talented when it comes to fashioning pipes and I'm generally more taken with the figural renditions, as depicted here. Her pretty mane of thick hair is topped by a fancy hat festooned with all kinds of finery, including a feather, flowers and bows, all displayed in fetching detail. This piece will smoke with a neutral flavor and darken with the warm tones of patina, coming to more fully harmonize with the stylishly adorned, amber-hued stem that's downturned for premium smoking comfort.
