Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Tomato with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Amongst the handful of Tomato designs we've seen from Abe Herbaugh, they've largely held to a particular type of Tomato — low-slung and squat, flowing sinuously through lifting shanks. This design presents something different from that tradition, however. With a more well-tapered, bulb-like bowl and just the slightest touch of forward cant, it's quite organic in its styling, paired to a particularly abbreviated shank and a longer, flaring horn mount. More consistent with his usual style is the finish, here — a crisp sandblast, which brings out the best of the undulating ring grain around the entirety of the bowl, while the dark stain pairs splendidly with the horn's natural patterns. Quite the neat piece.
