Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Billiard with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-614-0107
While Abe Herbaugh is well-known for his organically inspired Freehand designs and various Egg, Acorn, and Mushroom renditions, the American carver is certainly talented when it comes to shape chart standards. Billiards in particular are quite rare within Abe's portfolio but are welcomed sights to see whenever they are crafted. This offering is heavily Danish inspired in its execution, the bowl's plump base subtly tapering up toward the smooth, softly inflated rim with the transition displaying some slight cheeking. It takes a more soft-lined approach compared to a Billiard we received previously, this example strongly emphasizing its plumpness and supple curves. In keeping with the Danish aesthetic, Herbaugh has treated the stummel to a light-depth sandblast, offering some crisp texture in hand while maintaining the shape's clean line work. A pale boxwood accent graces the shank end, standing out in stark contrast against the bowl's dark, chocolate-tinged stain while the rounded stem base echoes the rim's inflated disposition.- Jeffery Sitts
