Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Tomato with Horn Tobacco Pipe

A signature Tomato design from Abe Herbaugh, this Nosewarmer rendition offers a squat, bulbous bowl with a scalloped, concave rim that lends the form a playful disposition. Displaying a hint of forward cant, it's rife with organic styling and is affixed to a much-abbreviated shank that leads to a horn accent. Shaped much like a domed expansion disc with its bulbous design, the mount's shaping mirrors the contours of the bowl and base of the saddle stem. In past renditions, Herbaugh has presented rounded bowl shapes and paired them with horn accents that, instead of flaring at the end as is common among classic Danish pieces, are more rotund to echo the curvaceous motif as seen here. This serves to make the shank more equal to the bowl in terms of the focal point, in addition to presenting an easy-flowing, sinuous aesthetic, from the bowl to the stem.
